World-renowned Author/Photographers
Anna and Ned DeLoach
The
First Annual Sea Critter Seminar took place at Amy Slate's Amoray
Dive Resort in Key Largo, Florida the week of April 25 thru May 2,
2008.
World-renowned
Author/Photographers, Anna and Ned DeLoach gave presentations about
reef fish and creature identification, their behaviors, and
underwater environmental concerns as well as holding contests and
giving out fishy gifts. The participants went for daily two tank
dives on the "Amoray Diver" and learned how to do REEF surveys and
about REEF programs.
Lad Atkins, founding member of REEF, Reef Environmental Education
Foundation, presented information about the Lionfish, which is a
marine invasive species and has invaded the waters of the Eastern US
Coast from Palm Beach to Maine, the Bahamas and a number of other
Caribbean Islands. The Lionfish is a danger to the marine ecosystem
and poses a threat to the tourist and fishing industries. Lad is
available to do Lionfish presentations for your group and can be
contacted at
www.REEF.org.
Ken Nedimeyer showed dive participants his coral farm, how to plant
corals and reconstruct a reef. With Ken's guidance Amoray will
be constructing and maintaining their own coral reef. For more
information go to
www.coralrestoration.org.
The Sea Critter Program was designed for divers and snorkelers who
enjoy learning about sea critters and the underwater world in which
they live. Amy Slate's Amoray Dive Resort will be having their
Second Annual Sea Critter Seminar May 29 to June 5, 2009. For more
information go to
www.amoray.com.
